Shocks or Struts…That is the Question.

We hear about them, but do we know them?  Better yet, do we care?  We just thought a tutorial would be in order here.  A vehicle has either a shock or a strut at each wheel…never both.  It is not the case of the two items being a tandem.  Knowing that, then what is the difference between a shock and a strut?

The major difference is that a strut is actually a structural part of the vehicle’s suspension system whereas a shock simply is NOT.  By the way, a strut is also a crucial part of the vehicle’s steering system and greatly affects alignment angles.  It is good to know, but what is essential is to remember is where to go when shocks or struts need to be replaced.

Vacation Checklist.
