Most of us may wait until the sound or feel of braking makes
us aware that our car’s brakes need to be checked. That may not be soon enough! Most vehicles should have their tires rotated
at least every six months, and that is a good time to have the brakes
inspected. A mechanic can check the thickness of the pads and the condition of
the brake hardware.
So, what about brake pads?
How often should they, perhaps be replaced? Generally speaking, brake pads should be
replaced after about 50,000 miles. Now, some need to be replaced after 25,000,
while others can last for 70,000 miles – it all depends on a variety of
factors. As always, consult your owner’s
manual.
