Is it Time to Check your Brakes?

Most of us may wait until the sound or feel of braking makes us aware that our car’s brakes need to be checked.  That may not be soon enough!  Most vehicles should have their tires rotated at least every six months, and that is a good time to have the brakes inspected. A mechanic can check the thickness of the pads and the condition of the brake hardware.

So, what about brake pads?  How often should they, perhaps be replaced?  Generally speaking, brake pads should be replaced after about 50,000 miles. Now, some need to be replaced after 25,000, while others can last for 70,000 miles – it all depends on a variety of factors.  As always, consult your owner’s manual.

How does Winter affect your Exhaust System?

Like most things in the life of your vehicle this one has a checklist as well.  Your vehicle’s exhaust system is an important part and should be checked at least once a year.  This time of year, you have to be careful of damages to your exhaust system from icy road conditions.  You MUST avoid harmful gasses seeping into your car!

Exhaust systems can be dangerous because exhaust contains carbon monoxide that could be deadly if it reaches the passenger area of your car. Carbon monoxide has no color or odor, making it difficult to detect AND lethal.
